Its Amazing

27 November 2010

It is downright amazing to see all the twists and turns in the world of SEO and Search Engine Marketing

It can be said that if one search engine provided all the results ( that is proper results) to all queries , then there would be no need for other products.  Google edged out , or pushed out , the market monolith Yahoo in that manner.   It was not a matter of a large competitor with a huge marketing budget ( read MSN/Bing)

It was a better product spread by word of mouth.

To that point Google never forgot this lesson.

Not long ago ( months) Google was seen as the force – the market monolith taking over the world

Facebook was seen in a small light , added in with highly un-targeted ads

After all isn’t Google there not so much for searches by internet users , but rather as a platform to display ads.  That is where the money is so to speak.

Yet facebook has no come out of nowhere to be the place where users spend hours and hours each day.

People go to Google to “look up things” , rather technical and are then presented with ads.  Wheras on facebook people go to socialize.  Socialization and telling of stories go all the way back to Ali Baba and the fourty thieves.

So in the end human nature reigns supreme.  People go to facebook each day for hours and hours each day. While they are there online they happen just to be served up ads.

Who would of thought.  Yet the more things change the more they remain the same.

Still they are not browsing at Google.

There is a famous answer by George Rumsfeld the Defene Minister under George W Bush the younger

When asked information – Mr. Rumsfeld answered in an almost riddle – there are those things that you tell…. and there are those things that are secret

The answer was so good humorous and even short in answering the basic questions that we all ponder – what do you tell , how much and to whom that the answer was made into an operatic song.

In the same way Google and specifically Google’s CEO as to Google’s algorithm.  Google’s nuts and bolts behind the scenes is their proprietary technology that keeps them ahead of the curve and their competition.  It must be noted that even though Google to say the least has prospered , yet has not become too big to forget their lesson .  Google knocked over in the marketplace the dominant monolith of the time – Yahoo as the search engine of choice.

On top of that Google fully appreciates that just like a big box store that exists to sell not product on its shelves but extended warranties.

In the same way Google attracts its clients – not to conduct internet searches for results but rather for its lucrative Google Adsense & Adwords PPC ads & ad programs

For the record here is Mr. Schmid’ts comments on the matter:

Danny Sullivan has posted a few videos from Google’s Zeitgeist event, and one of them is a fairly entertaining banter between Sullivan and Google CEO Eric Schmidt.  Sullivan  asks why Google doesn’t list its 200 ranking factors. Schmidt’s response:

“Because we change them. What would happen is, you’ve asked me this question for the eight years I’ve worked with you, so it’s the same question. Why don’t we publish these things. And the fundamental answer is we’re always changing. We’re always changing, and if we started saying here’s how the black box works, then all of a sudden huge incumbencies would come out about this change and that change, and we just don’t want that pressure.”

Google Waves demise – go figure !!

After al Google and Google Corporation is the market monolith without challenge in its field.  Bar none.  The “one”  to challenge mighty Microsoft in its wake.

Google Wave -”The Wave”  was open source , invited programmers from the begining to work with it , was open source, would be the marketer’s dream without question bypassing spam filters direct to your customer et al.    AWeber auto responder should be quaking in its boots of its sure demise.  Who needs to pay aweber now for an an auto responder service?

Social networking is the dominant growing field – lucrative city .  And yet in one quick flash Google Wave – the Wave is gone – goodbye

Highly unlikely yet an insightful story and events if you are on the outside of Google
