On with a discussion of Google & Gmails apparent largess when it comes to more than generous allocations and rules concerning email storage space in its Gmail email product.
Google itself is employing sophisticated SEO Search Engine Optimization techniques in practices in the choice and delivery of targeted Adwords ads to its registered Gmail users via their stored email. On top of that the system utilized by Google in this practice is anything but rudimentary. Indeed this is of great use and demonstrates to the participants and practitioners of SEO , to some degree and to the least the extent of Google’s tools and level of powers and sophistication. Be forewarned.
The adwords type ads which appear some of the time on the right hand panel of the Gmail email windows change from time to time , and are anything but generic ads plastered in sequence.
First of all these ads may not even be noticed. Like background music in a movie they tend to blend in. Yet when a word or phrase is specifically targeted to a Gmail account user or users – their interest or subconscious mind may be peaked to action. Alternatively it is no secret in the advertising business and in the psychology of the effect of ads that some of the time its not a direct message but continued and continual repetition again and again – that influences customers and consumers in buying choices and apparent brand loyalties and brand loyalty choice and cultivation.

For those of us with gmail email accounts. One finds that Having a gmail account is almost essential today – if one wants the raft of Google services to assess – whether its moderated Google news alerts , Google Analystics, Google Webmaster tools etc etc etc.
Yet Google is more than liberal and generous when it comes to space allocated to Gmail. True they have set the standard – forced other email providers to up the ante. Gmail came onto the scene when hotmail offered a measly 4 mb of email space and Yahoo 6mb.
Gmail offered initially a gig and now not only that its unlimited – limited of course by one broadband upload capabilities.
Yet Google was smart and thorough in their allocation. Try saving a program in gmail as storeage and you will be restricted and denied in the process – wheras Yahoo seems to allow this facility.
Yet why is Google so forthcoming. Indeed though one can say that server space ” is cheap”, Google goes out its way to remind users not to be afraid , indeed to use more and more email storage space. Indeed go to delete an email and you will be issued a friendly reminder by king Google – as to why not store the email as you have unlimited email storage capabilities. Yet its not like a bartender offering a workman a free drink at their establishment come pay day – or indeed several free drinks .
Most Interesting indeed. Why the largess on the part of Google & Gmail.

An interesting question in this day and age. Where do you hunt for run away kids or kids on the street ?
It used to be that you asked their friends , or their school friends. Or with die hard cases “On the street”
It used to be that neighborhood or school friends were key. Then kids retreated into the world of tv or movies .
Now their friends are on the internet , and even better in social networking sites. At the worst the need may be simply to communicate with local friends. If the kid has no money or cell phone available check out means of internet and free internet – say the local internet cafes. Secondly check out places where free internet is afforded and available
First that comes to mind are libraries. Second employment and job posting sites. Also try bus depots and the like
The run away may be simply posting and reading emails. They may be a known commodity around a site – cadging unused internet time.

Advocates of smaller government received some rare good news this week concerning government regulation of the Internet. Where your government is concerned, however, there is no shortage of alternate paths to the same regulated, restricted and controlled future. Almost before the news had broken, statist supporters of government Internet control were already scheming to circumvent a legal ruling that has erected the smallest of roadblocks in their collective path.
Tuesday, the Federal Appeals Court in Washington, D.C., ruled that, as written by CNET’s Declan McCullagh, the “Federal Communications Commission does not have the legal authority to slap Net neutrality regulations on Internet providers.” McCullagh went on to point out that “Tuesday’s decision could doom one of the signature initiatives of FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski, a Democrat. Last October, Genachowski announced plans to begin drafting a formal set of net neutrality rules – even though Congress has not given the agency permission to do so. … Net neutrality proponents responded … by saying the FCC should slap landline-style regulations on Internet providers, which could involve price regulation, service quality controls, and technological mandates.”
Price regulation. Service controls. Mandates. Do these terms disturb you? Do they disturb you further because they come on the heels of an autocratic federal agency being told it does not have the authority to control what it is attempting to control? Reporters covering the “net neutrality” ruling have blithely speculated as to whether the government might reclassify broadband Internet services as telecommunications services, giving the FCC the authority to enact price controls. This would be the first step in destroying the free market Internet Service Providers (ISPs) serve.
Price controls destroy the normal, natural, practical exchange of value for value among consumers and providers, invariably inviting further government intervention. This is socialism. This is collectivism. Barack Hussein Obama’s supporters hate it when the president’s critics point this out, but this is why his administration is bad for our country, for our economy and for our liberties.
In February, I wrote here in Technocracy of Obama’s totalitarian plans for the Net. I also recapped past coverage of the “net neutrality” issue and how Barack Hussein Obama’s administration has advocated this policy. On paper, it sounds worthwhile; most of us want a “free and open Internet” to continue:
We covered the dangers of “net neutrality” in October after first, perhaps optimistically, suggesting that an Internet controlled by the United States and its commitment to individual rights would prevent the establishment of thoughtcrime. It has become clear that a government empowered to enforce its vision of net neutrality will only do harm, interfering in commerce while opening the door to the institution of the very thoughtcrime the concept of “net neutrality” is intended, idealistically, to prevent. Should we be surprised, then, that Barack Hussein Obama is an ardent supporter of this most recent evolution of a once high-minded principle?
Obama has said, “I’m a big believer in net neutrality,” and he wants to empower the unelected, unaccountable autocrats at the FCC to force you and your Internet Service Provider to toe his totalitarian line. Even if they lose the court battle over whether Obama can impose new government rules on the Internet, they intend to do it anyway. The overlords at the Federal Communications Commission are even now plotting and scheming to find a way around the law and our court system, inflicting their controls on us regardless of what we want, what our judges say or what the Constitution might contain.
(Column continues below)
The problem, then, is that the “free and open Internet” as mandated and regulated by Barack Hussein Obama’s regime would be anything but. As is so often the case where Obama’s policies are concerned, the conflict quickly becomes one of Marxist, collectivist, communitarian sensibilities versus traditional American free-market principles. Obama’s idea of “net neutrality,” meaning his FCC autocrats’ idea of “net neutrality,” is not about government protecting individual rights to free expression and access to information. No, it is about divorcing service providers from ownership of their privately possessed equipment, mandating that they stop managing their own networks as they deem best. This forces them to own and run their property to their detriment, which is only too common a theme among socialist government-control schemes.
An editorial in the Christian Science Monitor yesterday put the argument over “net neutrality” into perspective. “That companies providing a Web service would hurt their customers with less content is a big and unproven assumption,” the editorial board wrote. “Some 95 percent of Americans have access to at least four wireless carriers that offer broadband, in addition to … cable, satellite, and phone line carriers still offering broadband access. That’s quite a range of choices … if companies don’t fear more government rules coming down that might discourage investments in this ever-changing industry.”
Technological industries grow, develop and evolve amazingly quickly. Centralized government-control schemes suffer from a single, overarching problem that will and does kill this innovation and evolution wherever such controls are applied. That is that government-control schemes cannot respond quickly enough to the market. They cannot compare to the “spontaneous order” of millions of consumers making independent, free choices in a marketplace unencumbered by debilitating government restrictions.
Obama’s FCC wants to protect you from yourself and from the onerous freedom of choice. Obama’s appointed staff of Marxist czars wants to stop ISPs from managing their own property on the assumption that the equipment owned by these service providers belongs to everyone. This is collectivism. This is Marxism. This is your government grinding your civil liberties underfoot in the name of freedom. This is your president urging that you be controlled in the name of setting you free. This is those in power further deepening that power in the name of protecting the powerless.
This is countless lesser tyrannies, and this is wrong.
It may seem obvious to many who observe consumers especially the young who are enamored by their cell phones , or what used to be called simply “cell phones’ yet are becoming ever increasingly advanced communication devices. With these advancements come opportunities for more and advanced ad and product targeted deliveries on these platforms.
While it is true that many of the hardware offerings are becoming ever more sophisticated in nature , most of the products are being served up on run of the mill mass market products – be its relatively simple , even mundane Nokia or Motorola branded phone ISP mass market handsets. Most of these now offer “browsing “ capabilities that users are attracted to more and more.
There may be very advanced products such as iPhones and Blackberries yet what most browse the internet on ( and are served targeted ads and promotions) , are the subsidized phones that most receive. On top of that it can be well counted on , that as new products enter the market in the standard lease , new phone service contract renewals , the replacement handsets will have more and more advanced , and hopefully automatic , if not most easy to use , mobile internet services afforded.
True “open phones” are on the way , such as the Google Symbian , yet consumers deal with phone companies ( in this case cellular divisions of phone companies) , not Google or other providers of cell phone technology and technologies for their products. For the upcoming future this is most likely to remain the same.
What do consumers browse at the moment , on the internet on their cell phones or portable communication devices. At this point hands down its news and information. This may be simple news , or specific in-formations as such as maps , restaurant or movie reviews etc for those on the move. The percentage increase on this market area is 100 % growth 2009 to 2008. Interestingly running next in line for internet marketers , and search engine optimization stalwarts is that accessing blogging and social network sites , while running second in line , at approx 1/2 of category number one of news / information is now approx 1/2 of the news category while growing at a rate of over 400 %. If this category continues its growth effects this could be a major area – and highly target-able market and marketing segment and segments.

2)What are the goals
3)
-The goal is to be on the first page or at the worst at the top of page 2
-85 % of the search engine traffic is with 3 players -Goggle , Yahoo % MSN
-What works for Goggle works for the other two search engines generally
-Don’t count or ignore Yahoo- it still has a loyal following, MSN is becoming more of a factor.Computer “nubes” with Vista are generally locked into MSN as their primary search engine – not Goggle
4)What is the basis of the ranking results of Search Engine Results (SERPS)
There are two determinants. Both have to be done
a)80 % of the effect is a result of the relevance and power of incoming links coming into a website from other websites. Think of it asa count of the number of citations that an academic paper has elsewhere
b)20 % of the effect is from on site factors.Important here are Title , and meta descriptions
Jonathan Harkness, a liquor-store regulator from Washington state, came to know “Jorge Carlos” in late 2006, when Carlos posted a Surefire flashlight for sale on eBay using a Miami street address.
Harkness bid $90, and after an exchange of e-mails on AOL, sent Carlos a money order. But the address turned out to be a private P.O. box, the high-tech flashlight never arrived, and Harkness realized he had been ripped off.
So in early 2007, he wrote his congressman, laying out his dealings with the mysterious eBay seller from South Florida and the possibility of a bigger scam. Rep. Adam Smith, D-Wash., urged the U.S. Postal Inspection Service to investigate.
Thus began a three-year probe to unmask “Jorge Carlos,” and to figure out how many other victims he might have fleeced around the country.
The payoff: Earlier this month, Nilton Rossoni, 50, a Brazilian businessman with multiple aliases who had lived in Sunny Isles Beach and Fort Lauderdale, was sentenced to 51/2 years in federal prison for running one of the biggest eBay scams in history.
“If postal inspectors had written it off, then it all would have fizzled,” Harkness told The Miami Herald.
Rossoni was convicted in October of hauling in $717,000 from more than 5,500 eBay buyers, by creating at least 260 different auction accounts, and using dozens of e-mail addresses with Yahoo, Google and AOL, as well as nearly 60 private postal boxes.
Rossoni engineered the intricate online retail scheme with the help of his son, Nilton Joel Rossoni, 28, according to an indictment. The younger Rossoni is a former Brazilian race car driver who graduated with a business administration degree from the University of Miami in 2007. He is believed to be on the lam in his native Brazil.
From 2003-08, the father auctioned thousands of products, from horse saddles to rotisserie grills, without delivering anything to the winning bidders. He maintained a legitimate reputation by fabricating positive feedback.
He also insisted that his buyers use cashier’s checks or money orders, not PayPal. The anti-fraud protection services at eBay are designed to help people who only use PayPal online to purchase their merchandise.
The total illegal take from Rossoni’s eBay victims may seem like a drop in the bucket — some $60 billion in goods were sold on eBay last year, according to the San Jose, Calif.-based e-commerce company — but his brazenness was unparalleled.
“Whenever people would complain on eBay, he would continue to put them off and even blame the post office for the delay,” said U.S. Postal Inspector Richard Koss, who led the investigation after the congressman’s letter landed on his desk in Miramar, Fla.
“He would be able to put them off a few weeks and promise a refund, but he’d never pay them. That would allow him to use the phony eBay user ID a little longer.”
How Koss cracked the case:
First he checked out “Jorge Carlos” on the Federal Trade Commission’s consumer complaint Web site. He found hundreds of angry eBay buyers who had sent thousands of dollars to Carlos, complaining that they never received their merchandise. Koss traced the name to dozens of private postal stores in Miami-Dade and Broward counties, which had photos of “Carlos” on record, as required by law.
“I had numerous pictures of him, but I didn’t know who he really was,” Koss recalled. He eventually zeroed in on “Carlos” at a Fort Lauderdale-area UPS mail box site. “I just went there and waited for him. He matched the photos.”
The inspector looked up the license tag on the man’s car, a Kia Rio. It wasn’t registered to Jorge Carlos but to Nilton Rossoni.
Koss, searching the FTC Web site, discovered not only eBay consumer complaints regarding “Jorge Carlos,” but also another likely alias, “Celso Ferreira.” In fact, the fraudster’s aliases accounted for some 1,400 consumer complaints to the FTC, dominating the list, he said.
Victims detailed rip-offs of $300 to $800 for such items as Bowflex machines, generators and metal detectors.
“It looked like a viable case, with ongoing fraud,” Koss said. “It wasn’t a gigantic dollar amount, but it was certainly worth investigating based on the number of consumer complaints.”
As he surfed the Internet for clues, Koss stumbled upon LotusTalk.com and MustangBoards.com. In summer 2007, he found postings by Thomas Alberti of the Chicago area, who summarized his bad eBay encounter with a South Florida man named “Celso Ferreira.”
Alberti, a lawyer who owned a small business supplying parts for sports cars, described how he successfully bid about $129 for a Snap-on torque wrench and sent the seller a cashier’s check, to a Miami street address. But Ferreira never sent the wrench.
Alberti’s online postings generated responses from others who also had had negative eBay experiences with Ferreira.
Alberti, who had been using eBay since the late ’90s without incident, contacted the police and filed an FTC complaint.
“I was kinda mad,” he said. “I gathered every single communication I had with this guy.”
The police did nothing. But Alberti and Koss compared notes.
The postal inspector figured out that Rossoni was using “Celso Ferreira,” “Jorge Carlos” and several other aliases in his eBay scam. Koss, working with federal prosecutor Marc Anton in Fort Lauderdale, also obtained voluminous records of Rossoni’s bank accounts under his alias names, along with e-mail correspondence and eBay statements.
Koss got back in touch with Alberti to fill him in on the investigation last summer, just before Rossoni’s arrest at Miami International Airport in August.
“I was amazed to hear from him again, because I had written it off,” Alberti said. “I was awed by his level of thoroughness. Now I’d like to see if I’m gonna get my money back. I would imagine I’m pretty low on the pecking order.”
A federal court hearing on restitution for victims is pending
Again in the question of the auto dealership site and the ability to draw paying customers for purchase of product or products what are the percentages of advertising effect to total purchases when it comes down to it. Graphs and charts are all nice , measurement of metrics as well are of interest and importance.
Yet two points are oft forgot when it comes time to set up , deal for and ultimately evaluate these campaigns. It is interesting that in an industry – the auto industry known for “horse trading” , the tables may well be turned on the dealer / owner / part owner / “car guy” promoted to “advertising guy” who announces – “Boy did I get a great deal from the Vancouver Sun auto section or Edmonton Journal truck and auto ads newspaper section . Its as if the tables are turned on the professional salesperson. He or she has been convinced that they had got the deal of the century without asking about real results or ultimate value. Its as if they were conned by a “financial planner” or life insurance salesperson into buying an intangible good – based on good will and friendship, with very little actual concern for anything but the vendor or ad salesperson’s pocketbook, wallet or commissions.
The second point is that the advertising and promotions are only perhaps at best 25 % of the “mix”. Why do people buy these products. First of all when it comes down to it – they may well need the transportation – it is essential today in many cases of job , family and lifestyle. People buy cars at a given dealership for any of a number of reasons , and combination of reasons – past experience , image of the dealership , what other people have told them , model and color availability . The list goes on and on and may well vary for each different person and consumer.
Advertising be it on the web , or in a newspaper , in an email or on other forms of media – may be only 25 % of the full effect . The rest to a great degree is the responsibility of the selling agent of the vendor be it a receptionist answering a phone , the salesperson or perhaps even another supportive customer on the sales floor.

Recently T. Vestor of a well known Winnipeg Auto dealership with a Wpg Auto Financing department noted that at a large scale internet marketing seminar , with 60 to 70 senior auto dealership advertising decision makers present that the presentation involved the upsurge or Kijiji as a local advertising platform – especially in relation to older more established advertising venues such as local newspapers and the auto ads which these platforms afforded.
It can be said that tried and true brings in the sales – and covers expenses. Currently new paper ads especially can be counted on to drive traffic to retail auto stores and dealerships. Once there it is the role of the staff to sell the customers. It is true that in auto retail sales that customers do come in mainly to purchase a vehicle – be it a new Dodge Ram truck or visit a GM or GMC dealer be it in Coqituitlam British Columbia or elsewhere.
The question becomes – are newspaper ads less effective , or even more effective since there are less competing ads. Perhaps people and consumers overall have more time to read ads , or dream on them. Perhaps as well these same visitors scan the ads that are listed on the online versions of these media outlets.
Kijiji or Craiglist - be it Vancouver Craiglist or Edmonton Autotrader may be searched more on Google searches . Yet does that correlate to more exposure , sales or traffic to the website or the dealership. A website stats package whether it is the onboard cpanel sats may tell more or give hints. It can be said that figures do not lie but liars figure. Its a matter of assumption , test , run campaigns and evaluate.
One can only work to stay ahead , and work ahead of your competitors and the marketplace. As a purchaser of ads and promotions you are entitled to value. Only by continually measuring and asking good questions will you get answers and hopefully good value for money spent. You may not always get answers – however you will be further ahead than if you did not do the “work” and just blindly pushed ahead.

It is oft quoted that one man’s “freedom fighter” is another man’s “terrorist”. The same statement can be held to be somewhat relevant when it comes to spam – or junk email. email is still one of the most effective means of sales in 2010 yet. Especially if one has a list – gleaned from previous sales or traded with contacts.
The means of marketing for or with lists goes as far back in recent advertising as Sears Roebuck and the famed Sear’s Catalog. Sell a consumer a product — even at a loss , yet obtain his or her name as a future customer and you have a target to throw mud against the wall. Its not John Candy , explaining on a SCTV skit as to why he and his “partner” had remade the famed film classic “Midnight Cowboy” as a 3d movie – “Well Maam its like this – we thought about it and…. if only a small percentage … 1/10 of a 1/10 of a percent of the people who went to see the original famous Midnight Cowboy movie went to see our film then we would be on the “Gravy Train”.
Yet these concepts of working with a list often meet limited results in the hands of the inexperienced and rank amateurs. For example one Bridges long hair seminars , involved in the marketing of long hair seminars, this fellow and character had it all worked out. He would offer a favor or prize online at his site – an ebook of a hard cover book , that had been promoted and touted by Oprah herself. The hard cover book cost $ 55 at Barnes and Nobles or Chapters worked out this rank novice. The book was “hot hot hot”. He could purchase and ebook version online on ebay. Then over the book on an autoresponder for free, collect the names . These names would thus form the basis of his targeted marketing list – his gold mine , who would certainly purchase more product . to earn the Bridges character big money.
Welcome to life and reality in 2010. First of all – if the book was that hot – then it would of been available online for free , or at little cost and risk from many other sources – not the least would be file sharing and torrents. Next add in duplicate and decoy email addresses – all free or little charge – thus diluting the real effect and power of the list. Lastly add in spam filters so that the messages or sales messages in many if not most cases would never reach the potential purchaser and buyer what so ever. Welcome to life – if the idea is good its most likely been thought of and worked with before. However in these marketing times , the time frames are very quick and rapid and you have to be at the leading edge of the curve.
